Mozart's Requiem: A Community Easter Oratorio

  • The Grand Theater 401 North 4th Street Wausau, WI, 54403 United States (map)

Free to the community, this special concert event features the Wausau Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Larson and a full choir of local voices performing Mozart’s dramatic choral masterpiece, made famous in modern popular culture from the 1984 Oscar-winning movie Amadeus. Mozart composed the piece in 1791, but did not complete the work before his death. In his final days, Mozart came to believe he was writing the Requiem for his own funeral, pouring his creative genius into what is considered one of the most stirring and awe-inspiring classical choral works ever written.

The concert begins with the choir and strings performing Mozart’s brief, but masterful “Ave Verum,” conducted by William Day. To introduce Requiem, Mr. Larson will present a brief overview of Mozart's life, his genius as a composer, and the significance of the Requiem.
